Shilpa Shastra Course (12 Months Course)

1. Basic Motifs Of Shilpa Shastra:

  • Learn the basic motifs like leaves, flowers, climbers, and karukkugal.

  • Different types of karukku motifs like vatta karukku, kodi karukku, kodi paalai karukku, etc.,

  • By sketching freehand motifs will enhance your artistic skills and focus

  • Embrace spiritual joy, positive vibes, and holistic well-being.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2.  Parrot - The Symbol of vibrancy of life

  • The parrot represents the soul's journey toward enlightenment. It conveys wisdom and the beauty of divine communication, qualities cherished in iconography and sacred art

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

3. Sketch Mythical Bird Swan (Annam) 

  • Sketch a Swan with beautiful Annavaal Kaurukku (Tail of swan) , which depicts Serenity & Divine qualities.

  • You can find beautiful swan motifs at the Kanchipuram Kailasanathar Temple in Tamil Nadu.

4. Creating Mythical & Spiritual “Makara Pakshi”

  • Learn to draw Makara Patchi in traditional style

  • They symbolise protection, power, fertility, and cosmic balance

5. Keerthimugam

  • In Shilpa Shastra and iconography, Keerthimugam (also known as Kirtimukha) is a fierce, mythical creature often depicted with a gaping mouth and huge fangs, symbolizing the devouring of evil and protection. It's also known as "Face of Glory"

  • You can find beautiful Keerthimugam sculptures at the Brihadeeswarar Temple in Thanjavur and the Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai, Tamil Nadu

  • Guardian Element: Placed above temple entrances, it acts as a guardian, ensuring only positive forces enter the sacred space.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

6. Yaali

  • In Shilpa Shastra and iconography, the Yaali is a mythical creature often depicted with the body of a lion and the head of another animal, such as an elephant (gaja yaali) or a dog (svana yaali). It symbolizes strength, protection, and divine power.

  • You can find beautiful Yaali sculptures at the Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple and the Airavateshvara Temple in Tamil Nadu

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

7. Learn Jewelleries of Gods & Goddesses 

  • Divine Adornments: Intricate jewelry symbolizes divinity and grandeur

10. Asta Mangalam of Ganapathy (Vinayagar)

  • Sketch the Asta Mangalams, a complete set of auspicious elements that invoke harmony, prosperity, and spiritual growth for devotees and spaces dedicated to divine worship

 

11. Moosika Vahanam

  • Moosika Vahanam is the divine vehicle of Lord Ganapathy (Ganesha).

  • Learn to draw the moosika (mouse/shrew) through simple steps capturing its symbolism.

  • The moosika, traditionally a shrew, represents Lord Ganapathy’s control over small yet fierce obstacles.

  • It is depicted near Ganapathy's feet in Tamil Nadu temples, symbolizing humility and speed.

  • The vahana complements Ganapathy’s role as the remover of obstacles and god of wisdom.

12. Sketch Lord Ganapathy (Vinayagar) in Pancha Thalam (A traditional measurement)

  • Sketch Lord Ganapathy using the Pancha Thalam measurement system, a traditional method employed in temple sculpture.

  • This system ensures the deity’s form aligns with cosmic energy, inviting divine blessings and auspiciousness.

  • Lord Ganapathy holds the esteemed position as the foremost deity in Hindu worship traditions.

  • By carefully applying the detailed principles studied earlier, we will sketch a sacred and proportionate representation.

  • Finally, we will adorn the deity with reverence, highlighting its spiritual significance and traditional sanctity.
